I grew up overweight. I just assumed that was how I was going to look and I had to get used to it.  I hated everything about myself.  No matter how well things could be going in other parts of my life, I was constantly haunted by this resentment I had for my body.

In my late teens I hit a wall.  All the self-hatred finally made me realize I needed to make a change. I began to bike, which led to running, which led to yoga, which led to school to learn about the human body.  I wanted to know that I was taking care of myself the right way and I wanted to help people discover this possibility of a healthy life.
After attending the National Personal Training Institute I began my career at a large corporate gym.  I found it to be money-driven and the environment had a lack of empathy all around.  So many people seek personal training because they need the help and for the simple fact that they do not feel comfortable exercising, and I felt the corporate gym did not do enough to create a positive environment.

My response was to strike out on my own, and in 2008 I started True Body Fitness out of a private home in Howell.  I moved myself and TBF to Detroit in 2010 and it was the best thing I’ve ever done. Since I opened here in Detroit I have felt part of a larger community.  Here I am surrounded by supporters and brilliant thinkers, and it is this support and all these great ideas that have molded TBF into what it is today.

My approach was and will always be ¨Fitness without the Attitude.”  It is not about getting ripped or looking hot, it’s about having a life where you are active and health-conscious. My goal is to create a community here that supports our bodies and our minds, and to try my hardest to make it fun.  I am so excited to be here and cannot wait to see what TBF will grow to be in the future!

I began in the fitness industry over 3 years ago. It was not my intent to follow this path, but from the day I started I knew that I loved working with people, helping them get motivated and stay inspired regarding their path to better health.

I’ve discovered in my own personal journey with my weight and body image that you have to love what you do and the results will come from that love. I also know that it’s not simple. Sometimes we need to challenge ourselves in order to get to that next level and that’s not always easy to do on our own. We are all different and special so we need a unique and specialized program to follow in order to get the results we seek. That’s where I am here to help. Together we will work with your personal goals, designing your personal program, getting the results that you want and helping you to stay energized and inspired!

I am certified by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) in Personal Training; I am also certified by the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) in Group Exercise Instruction and I hold 6 licenses to teach Zumba Fitness. I am committed to helping our community be more balanced, stronger and healthier, so being at True Body Fitness is the perfect fit. Please contact me for a private consult! I look forward to working with you.

I’ve been passionate about nutrition, health and fitness for many years, and have made exercise and healthy living part of my day-to-day life. After working as a social worker for fifteen years, I recently decided to focus on helping others live a more complete healthy lifestyle. I became a Personal Trainer, and now I work toward helping people in their journey to become more physically and emotionally fit.

My diploma in Personal Training is from the National Personal Training Institute, and my training focused on Nutrition, Anatomy and Physiology, as well as development of Program Design for Personal Training.

Everyone has various reasons for why their fitness program has not worked for them in the past. I work to help people find an exercise that they love and can be committed to, and I aim to find ways to keep people motivated as they discover their potential in health and fitness. It takes discipline, but I have truly seen rewards as both fitness and nutrition have allowed me to become not only physically stronger, but more confident in many areas of my own life. I am dedicated to developing specific programs that will assist people in reaching their fitness and health goals!
