Mat Pilates is an exercise system that is focused on building strength without bulk, improving flexibility, ability and posture, and helping to prevent injury and eliminate back pain. The primary focus is on awareness of the spine, proper breathing, core strength and flexibility. The outcome of Pilates training is a balanced body which is strong and supple, flat stomach, balanced legs, and a strong back. The Pilates mat class provides the student with the fundamental principles of Pilates and allows the student to work at their own level. This class begins with a gentle warm-up then carefully sequences through exercises and stretches in a lying down or seated position where variations of beginner, intermediate, and advanced are offered. Tai Chi a meditative movement exercise for the mind body and spirit. One of the aims of Tai Chi is to foster the circulation of energy and force within the body. Afro-Brazilian Fusion this is an energetic, fun and freeing form of dance that is not based entirely on technique and precision but rather on the movements and gestures of the Orixas (or mythology of the Yoruba gods). Because each divinity has its own characteristics, the dances vary: strong and vibrant movements when related to warriors or thunder makers; soft and swift movements when representing the current of a small stream. We will also explore some of the Brazilian social dances such as samba reggae and the Capoeira-related dance Maculele. The classes consist of a solid cardio and stretch warm-up, movements traveling across the floor, a short combination based on the theme of the class, and a cool down.
